About Phoenix

My love of gospel music, quartet especially, started as I was growing up watching the Parade of Quartet. Just the harmonies and the emotions of the songs drew me in. My mother and her sisters sang in their early years as “The Jones Sisters” and much later the group transitioned to a group called the “Shilites”, which I played keyboards for and sang lead with for nearly fifteen years. Nine years ago I walked into a local radio station, WCZZ 1090AM, to cut a commercial for my barbershop. The station manager asked if I had ever done radio and would I consider it. The answer was a resounding no and NO! But after a little convincing, “Phoenix” the radio personality was born. The Phoenix signifies the raising from the ashes, as in every trial we go through, it is a chance to rise from the ashes a stronger and wiser person.

In my tenure at WCZZ 1090AM, I devised the Quartet show and a talk show called “Real Women, Real Talk”. The talk show focused on issues that the everyday woman faces in life. It also brought community awareness to health issues and community services to the forefront. Having also worked at WCRS 1450AM, I was truly able cater to the genre of music I love. I am also founder of a women’s support group called “Strengthen Our Sister” which is a group where women can connect with other sisters for a listening ear and support, which also has a chat line. The Lord has truly blessed and the “Another Level Show” was heard in six markets, VSC Christian Internet Radio (Virginia), WCRS 1450 AM (South Carolina), Blessed Way Radio Network (Detroit), The Gospel Train (Birmingham), KTGDS Radio (Arizona) and The Family Gospel Network (California).

But even now, I must follow the vision that the Lord gave me. Stepping out on faith I started Faith Xpressions, a gospel internet station giving a voice to those who are commissioned to xpress their faith! Only a month into the station, we have achieved amazing numbers. I attribute not only to the great music, but also to the great shows that we offer.

I am also the owner of Five Star Barbershop and a licensed barber. Our shop is active in the community, providing free cuts at back to school events, and offering mobile service to the home-bound, hospital and nursing homes. I also cut once a month at our local soup kitchen and a local transitional home for recovering addicts. After countless interviews and appearances, I believe the best is still to come.

My motto, “Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Be encouraged, stay faithful and remember, a Phoenix always rises.
